Even the Choice of Bearings is Tough from Timken

timken-housed-bearings-familyTough jobs demand tough bearings. Some of the toughest bearings you can find are made by Timken – a global leader in friction management technologies. And with 8 different housed bearing types to choose from, in a huge range of sizes, Timken even make choosing tough.

Timken is not only the leading authority on tapered roller bearings, but also has one of the most complete offerings of anti-friction bearings available. Each one represents the ultimate in bearing design and manufacture, based on Timken’s long experience and deep knowledge – not just of bearings and related systems, but also of metallurgy, tribology and power transmission. So you can expect a Timken bearing to be the most efficient design and manufactured from the most robust materials.

It’s that combination which helps to ensure that Timken bearings deliver longer-lasting, more efficient operation, whatever machinery or equipment they’re fitted in.

Steel or brass?

The steel cage of the new design Timken Spherical Roller Bearing (SRB), for example, has an internal geometry and optimised surface finishes which maximize bearing performance. As a result, Timken SRBs have been proven to run at lower temperatures than competitive offerings.

The steel cage SRB is available from 25mm bore to 400mm outside diameter, and a brass cage version is also available, for bore sizes from 30-1500mm. In a choice of EM (roller-riding cages) or EMB (land-riding one-piece cages), these bearings are precision-machined for efficiency, but also designed to operate effectively even in harsh industrial environments.

Timken Spherical Roller Bearings are also available in solid-block housed units, with housings made from cast steel. These are the only SRB housed units offering steel solid-block housings as standard, and are quite simply the most robust SRB you can buy. As an indication of their toughness, they can run on shafts misaligned up to ±1.5° without any reduction in their life expectancy.

Easier installation

As well as making bearings tough, Timken make bearings that make engineers lives easier.

The new SNT split plummer block housings have separate, matched caps and bases to make installation easier. For bearing inspection, service and replacement, it’s  simply a case of removing the cap using a pry-tool slot to gain access. These housings are available in a range of bore sizes from 20-380mm.

Revolvo Split Roller Bearings also save time and effort with their split-to-the-shaft design, which enables fitting without needing access to the shaft ends, as they can be built around the shaft. This means huge savings in downtime, as there’s no need to remove other drive components to work on the bearing. This range comes in sizes from 35-600mm, with larger versions available through special design.

Comprehensive range

Completing the Timken range available from ERIKS are:

  • Type E Tapered Roller Bearing Housed Units (for shafts from 35-125mm bore size)
  • SAF Pillow Blocks (1.3/8 to 11.13/16 11”, with special shaft sizes available to 39.38” and beyond)
  • Adapter sleeves to simplify mounting
  • Withdrawal sleeves

Over £5 million of bearing stock is available same day from ERIKS, and an additional £150 million is available next day. Supported by a network of 65 ERIKS Service Centres around the UK, it means that getting the service you want and the tough Timken bearings you need, needn’t be tough at all.
